Mind is something that has been one of the subjects for scientific inquiry to philosophical discussion, there has not been a society or culture that hasn't spoken about the mind.
In Sanskrit, the mind is called Manah, Chittam, Swantam, Manasam.
There are some very interesting verses from various scriptures of India about the mind.
Two verses of the first Brahmabindupanishad say-
मन एव मनुष्याणां कारणं बन्ध मोक्षयोः।
बन्धाय विषयासक्तं मुक्तयैर्निर्विषयं मनः।।
Mana eva manushyanam karanam bandha mokshayoh.
Bandhaay vishyashaktam muktaiyrnirvishyam manah
The mind is the cause of human bondage and salvation. A mind attached to objects is the cause of bondage and a mind free from objects is the cause of liberation.
मनो हि द्विविधं प्रोक्तं शुद्धंचाशुद्धमेव च।
अशुद्धं कामसंकल्पं शुद्धंकामविवर्जितम्।।२।।
Mano hi dvividham proktam suddhanchashuddhmev cha.
Adhunam Kama Sankalpam Shuddham Kama Vivarjitam.
The mind is said to be of two types, pure and impure. Desire, desire, attachment, and determination for the fulfillment of desires, the mind containing them is said to be impure and the mind free from them is said to be pure.
In Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Skandha 12 Adhyay 5 Shlok 6 is also related to the mind-
मनः सृजति वै देहान् गुणानि कर्माणि चात्मनः।
तन्मनः सृजते माया ततो जीवस्य संसृतिः।।
Manah srajati vai dehan gunani karmani chatmanah.
Tanmanah srajate maya tato jeevasya sansritih.
The mind itself creates the bodies of many births of the soul and the qualities (sattva, raja, tamas) and actions (sat-asat). That same mind creates Maya by which the soul transforms into the soul.
